we started the summer learning journey today here is what we did today
1. to become a New Zealand citizen you must swear an oath of loyalty to Queen Elizabeth
2. Gisborne is the first country in the whole world to see the sunrise first
3. New Zealand drivers have to drive on the left-hand side of the road this is the opposite to America.
Kia ora Erana,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Rachel and I am working with Megan and Cia on the Summer Learning Journey programme this year. I also work with your mom at the Woolf Fisher Research Centre. It is so cool to see that you have joined the journey this year and that you are posting activities on your blog. Way to go!
I really enjoyed reading your first post as I learned something brand new from you. In fact, I did not know that Gisborne is the first place in the whole world to see the sunrise. I knew that it was the first place in New Zealand but didn't realise that it was the first place in the entire globe. Wow! One of our staff members, Jordan, actually lives in Gisborne. She is pretty lucky, isn't she? I will have to ask her to take a picture of the sunrise one day to show all of us.
I will also have to ask Jordan for her help because she is really good with computers and often helps us when we need to do something to our Summer Learning Journey website. This week-end I would like to ask Jordan to help me with the website because I have created a special video. It is a video that I created for this activity because we have had a number of students asking us what we mean when we say 'On your blog, post your Top 3 facts about New Zealand in your own words.' It can be a bit tricky to know what that means, can't it?
I really hope that this video will help. If you are able to take a look at it, I would really appreciate your feedback. I'll insert a link to it on the website on Week 1, Day 1, Activity 1. If you and your mom are online over the next few weeks, I'd love it if you could watch the video and let me know what you think. There is no rush and you don't have to do it, if you don't want to.
I suppose that I better head away now as it is almost dinner time here and Aronui (my son) is getting hungry! We are having a special dinner tonight before we head to to MOTAT (the Museum of Technology and Transport) to see the Christmas lights. Do you and your family ever go to see the lights at MOTAT?
Wishing you and your entire family a very Merry Christmas and a happy new year. I will look forward to reading your work over the summer and providing comments. It is wonderful that you are working so hard to keep your learning going over the break.
All the best,
Rachel :)

Kia ora Erana,
DeleteThanks for writing back to me so quickly! It's great to hear from you. Unfortunately, our trip to MOTAT was cancelled last night because of the rain. We had hoped that it would stop but it just didn't let up. We are hoping to go tonight instead. If we go, I will definitely look out for the double decker tram. It sounds like a lot of fun to ride!
Have a great day tomorrow. (And thanks for agreeing to take a look at the video. I really appreciate it).
Cheers,
Rachel
